Beautiful Hill Tribe Doll representing the Yao (or Mien) mountain people of northern Thailand.
Not mass produced as souvenirs for tourists. This was designed by premier artist Vanida S Mongkhon to represent the authentic, realistic style and clothing of hill tribe people of Thailand in the 1980’s and 1990’s. The designs were then turned over to 'Youthanna' to be carefully handcrafted. This doll has porcelain head, hands and feet. The rest of the body is firmly stuffed cloth. Moveable limbs. The traditional costume is made with the greatest care and attention to detail.
The traditional attire of the Yao hill tribe people is extraordinarily beautiful. The women wear long black jackets that are accented with woolen scarlet lapels. They wear loose black pants that are embroidered with exquisite designs and a matching black turban. The Yao are famous for their rich embroidery and cross stitch.
