This is a stunning piece of post-WWII German history & elegance: a vintage "Kalte Ente" (Cold Duck) serving pitcher. It features a beautifully heavy, hand-cut crystal glass body with ornate starburst patterns, topped with elegant silver-plated fittings including the lid, handle, and spout mount.
Authenticity & History:
The base of the silver mount bears the authentic stamp "Germany US Zone," a mark used exclusively between 1945 and 1949. This rare vintage mark guarantees its age and origin from the American-occupied zone of West Germany shortly after WWII. It is likely manufactured by renowned makers Hans Knäbel Esslingen (HKE) or Quist Wurttemberg.
The pitcher is in excellent used condition. The crystal is clear, with no chips, cracks, or cloudiness. The silver plating shows a lovely patina consistent with age (can be polished to a high shine).
NOTE: The original inner glass ice tube/insert is missing. The pitcher is fully functional for serving beverages without the tube.
