First edition dated 1869.The Practical Phrenologist by O.S. Fowler. Boston (formerly) NY. Original cloth with decorative gilt phrenology head. ACCEPTABLE condition with corner wear and spine bumps and cover wear. It has Nice tight binding. Practical Phrenologist and recorder and Delineator of the character and talents of Lottie Loomis, SIGNED AND DATED by O.S. Fowler [Dec 17,1881] Orson Squire Fowler (1809-1887) was an early and ambitious proponent of the “science of phrenology” which today is seen as the parent to modern neurology. His slogan “Know Thyself” was intended to assist people in doing just that after they had experienced a skull reading. This volume is a reading for the individual Lottie Loomis and contains all the pencil markings related to her characteristics. Fowler, Colorado is named for O.S. Fowler who read the skulls of Walt Whitman, J.G. Whittier and Mark Twain. Please see pictures for condition. Sku 58
